On Saturday 17 May, Rotary on The Wight celebrated the 100th anniversary of Ryde Rotary with a spectacular Centenary Gala Dinner at the Island Sailing Club, Cowes.
The guests included the Isle of Wight High Sheriff, Jacqueline Gazzard, the Treasurer of Rotary GB & Ireland, Richard Campbell, the Rotary District Governor, Debbie Dunford, seven representatives of the French Rotary twin club of Chateau du Loir and several Past Presidents of Ryde Rotary who all enjoyed drinks in the sun on the terrace followed by a delicious three course meal with wine.
The pre-dinner drinks were supplied by one of our sponsors, Mermaid Gin, who also kindly provided the star prize for the raffle. Rotary is also grateful for their support in this very special Rotary Centenary Year, to our other main sponsors, Rotary District 1110, Ryde Town Council, Tesco Ryde, Wightlink Ferries, The Event Company and Churchers Solicitors, who were represented at the dinner.
Mike Jukes, who led the team that organised the event, said “It was a pleasure to welcome the High Sheriff, His Majesty King Charles’ representative on the Isle of Wight, as there is a longstanding Royal connection with Rotary. It was also a pleasure to welcome so many other guests, and the dinner was a fitting celebration of 100 years of voluntary service by all the members of Ryde Rotary”.
