The Eastern Gardens Arch is in a poor state of repair and as a result is having a major refit. Due to excessive rust, some elements cannot be saved and will have to be refabricated, others will be stripped and cleaned before being reattached to the arch.
The whole repaired arch will be sent off to the mainland to be galvanised before returning to be reattached to the uprights. Modern 2 pack finishes will be applied to the arch to match the original and the existing support pillars will be prepared and decorated.
This work is being done through a partnership between Ryde Town Council and the Isle of Wight Council. It will commence on Thursday 23rd April and the newly refurbished arch should be in place by mid-June.
