– Town Council acts to Warm Up Ryde

Ryde Town Council have teamed up with the Island’s Footprint Trust charity to help those in the Town who are in crises due to high fuel bills and hard to heat homes. The Town Council immediately acted when they heard of the plight of many Ryde residents, who often spend between 10 and 30 percent of their income on energy.

At a recent meeting Ray Harrington-Vail the Trust’s National Heat Hero presented facts to councillors on the stark choices that many Island residents face, having to choose between heating and eating.

The Town Council has provided the Trust with funding so it can visit some 50 homes this year and give them tailored guidance on ways in which to reduce utility bills and gain discounts and grants.       The Ryde Warmer Homes initiative has been launched and  anyone needed help or guidance can call the charity on 01983 822282

or email ray@footprint-trust.co.uk

The Trust will also administer the Ryde Warmer Homes fund to assist Ryde residents with essential energy efficient white goods.

Ryde Mayor, Councillor Henry Adams said, ‘Ryde Town Council is delighted to be supporting this much needed Ryde initiative that will help the most vulnerable in our community.’

Speaking for the Trust Ray said,

“We are so pleased that Ryde Town Council has acted in such a positive way to help the people of the Town.”
