Thanks to the success of last year’s launch, visitors with limited mobility will once again be able to enjoy Ryde’s beautiful beach via our purpose-built wooden boardwalk, handcrafted by the NaShers Men’s Shed group, along with a range of accessible beach facilities.
The boardwalk will be available from 22 May 2026. We are currently planning works to extend the boardwalk at Harbour Beach. To carry out these works safely, the sand needs to be levelled, meaning there will be limited boardwalk while the works are taking place. Additional sections of boardwalk are also available near the Lifeguard Station.
Accessible beach wheelchair equipment will be available from 1 July – 30 August and can be collected from Ryde Lifeguard Station.
Available facilities include:
- Beach and sea wheelchairs
- Sand rollator
- Changing Places unit with ceiling hoist, changing bench, and shower
The Changing Places unit is now open year-round, and a RADAR key is no longer required for access.
Opening hours:
Summer: 07:00 – 22:00
Winter: 07:00 – 19:00
These facilities are available free of charge, but booking is essential via our website: Beach Accessibility Bookings
This community-led project has been made possible through the support of local organisations, sponsors, and our generous funders. With their help, we continue to ensure that Ryde Beach is an inclusive and welcoming destination for everyone.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the beach this summer!
