*Update from Isle of Wight Council
During a routine inspection, the arboriculture team identified extensive internal decay at the base of the oak tree located northwest of Appley Beach Café. This damage has severely weakened the tree, which is also heavily weighted to one side and leaning over the access road into Appley Park. A well-used pedestrian path runs directly beneath its canopy.
Public Safety
After careful assessment the decision by the Isle of Wight Council to remove the tree to eliminate any risk to pedestrians or road users. We recognise that trees are highly valued in our community, and decisions like this are never taken lightly.
Scheduled Works
- Dates: Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 March
- Traffic Management: Temporary traffic lights will control access into and out of Appley Park during the works.
We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation while we carry out these necessary safety measures.
