The Mayor has chosen to raise money for the young people of Ryde this year.
My charitable aims for 20/21 is the physical and mental well-being of Ryde residents of all ages post-Covid and support local projects that improve the health and well-being of residents especially those experiencing trauma triggered by Covid19 crisis.
I intend working with Network Ryde, the IW Youth Trust, Aspire, Bernardo’s, local schools and other organisations in Ryde focusing on the emotional well-being and aspirations of young people in Ryde. As well as raising funds this will be a campaign for young people led projects.
With the support of Network Ryde and the IW Youth Trust, the plan is to establish a Ryde Council of young people who can have a say in how any money raised is spent. This will hopefully enable the voice of Ryde’s young people to feed into the Ryde Regeneration Forum.
It should be noted that the recent regeneration consultation highlighted young people and associated activities as one of the three priorities Ryde residents wanted to see in the regeneration of Ryde.
Ryde Town Council has invested in young people in the town through Network Ryde Youth Services and The Skatepark. The Mayors’ campaign and fundraiser is to get funds to the inspirational Ryde voluntary youth sector through the decision making of young people themselves. They are our future, we need them in our decision-making process, and we need to make them happier, helping them with their aspirations and creating further opportunities for them.
