Ryde Carnival has been supported by Arts Council England to improve accessibility at this year’s event. Here are some of the ways they are making sure everyone can experience Ryde Carnival.
Accessible Viewing Platform
If you have mobility issues you can make use of our raised accessible viewing platform located outside Dover Park School. It’s the perfect spot for those in wheelchairs and their carers. Space is limited so please let us know if you would like to use this area. You can email
joe@department-ryde.org or book a space here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/407912616617
Discovery Touch Tours
Shademakers UK are bringing their spectacular costumes from The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant to the streets of Ryde as part of our Main Carnival. Whilst they are setting up for the event they are offering Discovery Touch Tours where members of the public can get up close to the costume pieces, explore how they are made and hear from the team about how they are made. These workshops are designed for those with sight loss and sensory issues but are open to all. The workshops take place on the grass outside Superbowl on the Hovertravel side and you can book your free place here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/406846678367
Live Broadcast
If you are unable to make it to this year’s carnival, you can watch all the action via live stream. A professional film crew will bring a high quality, multi-camera broadcast with descriptive audio commentary and BSL interpretation. To access the broadcast you can view it via the Ryde Carnival Facebook Page @RydeCarnival or on Youtube at:

Get Involved
If you’ve always wanted to get involved in Ryde Carnival there is still time to join in. Shademakers are offering a chance to be part of The Queen’s Beasts as a member of the team who performs the snake. If you would like to have a go you can sign up here:
