Ryde Town Council – 2016/17 Budget and Precept Setting

The Town Council is about to start considering setting the budget and precept (the money you pay to the Town Council for Ryde as part of your Council Tax bill) for Ryde in 2016-17. This year the Town Council has delivered a wider range of local services including allotments, a skatepark, decorative lighting, beach safety, beach cleaning and planting schemes as well as funding a dedicated Environment Officer for the town and Councillors will be considering where the budget should be allocated in the future. The Town Council will also be giving consideration to the future of some Isle of Wight Council services – with the provision of public toilets likely to be the most at risk. Have your say by contacting your local town councillor, by emailing the Town Council or by writing to us with your views using the contact details above. There will also be a public consultation meeting in January for residents to come and have their say – please check the town council’s website for more details about this.

Beginners Golf

Beginners half price golf sessions will be held at Westridge Golf Centre in the new year as part of the Isle be Active initiative. For £10 you can join a small group and receive expert tuition. Sessions are available on Saturdays at 10am, starting 16 January, and on Thursdays at 6pm, starting 21 January. Booking is essential. Rural Broadband Project Update

The Rural Broadband project is a partnership between the Isle of Wight Council, Broadband Delivery UK and BT. The aim of the project is to deliver Superfast Broadband into remote areas, which had previously not been considered commercially viable for investment. To date 87 green street cabinets have been installed to provide access for over 18,000 premises in the project intervention areas. The latest new cabinets in Ryde are located in Sherbourne Avenue, Amherst Place, Marlborough Road, West Street, Cross Street in Oak Vale.
