Saturday 14 May saw the first ever annual Celebrating Ryde event at Garfield Road Methodist Church in Ryde. This brand new event in the calendar is the result of a collaboration between Ryde Town Council and the Isle of Wight Council designed to celebrate everything that is fantastic about Ryde.

It was an opportunity for local organisations to come and engage with members of the public and explain a little bit more about some of the exciting things going on in Ryde.

Those organisations included:

Wight Wave Beach Sports

The New Carnival Company

Isle of Wight Council – Ryde Interchange

Isle of Wight Council – Regeneration

Ryde Town Council

Ryde Marina

Ryde Society

Ryde’s Place Plan

Ryde Carnival

Birds Aware Solent

Network Ryde

Community Led Housing

Luke Kerr, Director of Wight Wave Beach Sports said:

“I am delighted to continue to work collaboratively with Ryde Town Council and its partners in ensuring Ryde is a vibrant, fun and actively engaging place to live and visit”

Bird Aware Solent Said:

“Celebrating Ryde was a fantastic day highlighting just how much we have going on in this town! Ryde is a really important part of our coastline for birds, so it was a great opportunity to showcase our wildlife to local residents and other organisations”

John Prickett from Community Led Housing said:

“The Celebrating Ryde event was an upbeat, friendly and informative occasion and an opportunity both to explain the project to those attending. It was great to meet other partners in Ryde and see what they are working on – and think about how we might better work together.”

Ryde society said:

“The Ryde Society were delighted to have been invited to participate in this event and will look forward to being invited to participate in an even bigger event next time. It was a really good forum to meet Officers and Councillors under one roof; and enabled people to make their views known, who might otherwise not have done so.”

Mayor Michael Lilley said:

“What a wonderful way to celebrate our town! It was lovely to see so many people come along and find out more about the way Ryde is moving forward. Next year’s event is already being planned and I’m sure that it will be even bigger and better – there is so much to celebrate about Ryde!”
