– Ryde Remembers

This Sunday the community of Ryde came together to remember those who gave their lives in the name of freedom.

A poignant service at All Saints Church was given by Reverend Heath Monaghan before a parade led by the Standards of the Royal British Legion, Ryde under the Parade Marshall Jeffery Reid.

Local community groups including many young people wound slowly down to the War Memorial in Lind Street to join a crowd of hundreds for a sombre and respectful occasion. The Last Post was sounded by Denise Tizard.

This included a powerful moment with the laying of wreaths led by DL Dr Nick England and an impeccably observed silence to allow everyone to bow their heads and think about those they have lost and the ultimate sacrifice that so many have made.

Town Clerk Lisa Dyer said:

“It was wonderful to see such a huge number of people come together in such way to share in a moment of community remembrance. It was a very moving and powerful display of respect.”
